about
Future Past, Lovespirals’ 4th full-length album, is a career-defining synthesis of the band’s vast musical influences into a fresh new electronica sound. This captivating 11 track set contains their strongest songwriting to date, with an attention to detail in recording quality and production that is unmatched in the duo’s decade-long history. As the title suggests, Lovespirals have melded the contemporary with the classic; embracing the past, but with an eye towards the future.
In that spirit, the duo made a nod to their earliest collaborations with the atmospheric drum & bass tune, “Love,” which was remixed by various producers to create the 'Love EP,' also available on Bandcamp. On the other end of the musical spectrum is “Feel So Good,” by far the band’s funkiest downtempo groove, infused with dashes of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and Marvin Gaye’s Trouble Man. This track was featured as a Sony Acid Planet remix contest, which lead to the 'Feel So Good EP,' also available on Bandcamp. Interestingly, both of these songs feature lyrics which vocalist, Anji Bee, wrote within the first year of working with band founder, Ryan Lum.
Lovely album opener, “Home,” happily welcomes the band’s return to electronica from their previous Dream Pop release, 'Long Way From Home.' This track, along with the gorgeously melancholic “Shine,” and epic album-closer, “Believe,” are bittersweet electro-pop gems in the vein of early Air or Zero 7, with lazy beats, lush arrangements, and Bee’s honeyed vocals. But Lum’s masterful guitar work sets the band apart from their downtempo contemporaries, bringing the rhythm and lead playing of a classic rock artist to a largely computer-based genre.
It’s the magical combination of Lum’s soulful guitar and Bee’s sumptuous vocal harmonies that is the cornerstone of Lovespirals’ unique signature sound. With a subtle yet powerful mix of musical moods and emotional expressions, 'Future Past' is sure to enchant both old and new listeners for years to come.

Chris of Chillout Scene wrote:
“Lovespirals’ sound is similar to one of my favorite chillout artists, Zero 7. Ryan’s bluesy guitar playing makes them unique and even more interesting than Zero 7. Anji’s heavenly vocals also set Lovespirals apart from other artists. A delightfully chill album.”
Singer/Songwriter Beth Hirsch said:
“Lovespirals latest CD, 'Future Past' is easily one of the best chill out albums to welcome in 2010. The album is sexy, moody, bluesy, ethereal – pure Lovespirals.”
Matt Rowe of Music TAP wrote:
“Lovespirals is an undiscovered diamond, cut to a many-faceted perfection in their new album... Future Past is their masterpiece work to date. With Manzarek-like keyboards, a masterful bluesy guitar, and an angelic voice... not to be missed.”
Brett Crockett of Karmacoda said:
“Future Past sounds both classic and yet completely new; it features the most compelling elements of seventies groups yet is completely rooted in today’s electronica/pop/alternative genres.”
