about
Lovespirals truly hit their stride with 3rd full-length album, 'Long Way From Home.' Melding the dreamy folk and rock of their debut, 'Windblown Kiss,' with the soulful jazz and blues of follow-up, 'Free & Easy,' the duo seamlessly blend prior influences with new sounds and styles. The sensual voice of Anji Bee spins seductive tales of beautiful sadness and spiritual longing set to Ryan Lum's melancholic music. Bluesy electric guitar abounds, with touches of wistful slide guitar, tinkling piano, and haunting harmonica to evoke a lush, organic, Americana feel.
Long-time fans of Lovespirals (and Lum's prior incarnation, Love Spirals Downwards) will be pleased to hear the duo return to their Dream Pop roots as well as their return to vocal and guitar based songwriting. Bee's vocal harmonies soar confidently alongside Lum's guitar with that trademark blend of childlike innocence and mature sensuality that has endeared her to listeners new and old. And Lum's guitar comes to the forefront of the music as it never has before, with a masterful mix of acoustic, electric, and slide guitar playing, featuring majestic solo work.
The heart-tugging blend of Americana and Dream Pop in 'Long Way From Home' brings to mind the quieter works of indie bands like Mazzy Star, Mojave 3, and Red House Painters, while Lovespirals' studio finesse hints at better known artists such as Chris Issac, k.d. lang, or Cowboy Junkies. The influence of rock legends David Gilmour, Neil Young, and Jerry Garcia peek through in Lum's guitar work, while Bee's lyrics and vocals strive toward the exalted sorrow expressed by George Harrison, Tim Buckley, and Nick Drake.
The album's first single, a gorgeously moody cover of the anonymous American classic, "Motherless Child," currently holds the #3 spot on the "Most Played on Podcasts" chart for the Downtempo Genre on Music Alley (formerly known as the Podsafe Music Network), while the album's second single, "This Truth," currently ranks #7 on the same chart. Both singles have been remixed by a number of artists and released as extended singles.
The 'Motherless Child EP' contains remixes by Hungry Lucy, Karmacoda, MoShang, and more. The band's second Peace Love Production remix contest inspired the 'This Truth EP,' which includes contest winning producer, Pomatic, runner-up Kambronn, and Projekt Records labelmate, Soul Whirling Somewhere, amongst others. UK dance label, Loverush Digital, released another set of "This Truth" remixes, branded as Damien.S VS Lovespirals, featuring additional remixes by Juno Sinclair and Craig Bailey, Avatar One, Thomas Oldani, and Adam Fielding. The single reached number #2 on the DMC World Wide Trance Charts, #4 on the DMC World Wide House Charts, and #8 on the UK Music Week Club Charts.

Matthew Johnson of Re:Gen Magazine wrote: “It’s not an understatement to call Long Way from Home the duo’s most accomplished work up to date; as enjoyable as their previous explorations of laidback electronica and jazz fusion have been, this album captures Lum and Bee’s warm musical chemistry in a way that previous releases only hinted at.”
Miles Klee of Hot Indie News wrote: "Bluesy slide guitar work sometimes shades over into Santana-like finger-meandering, and vocalist Anji Bee’s layered voice paints bright glaze over already dreamy arrangements. It’s as though the glancing disaffection of 80′s and 90′s dream-poppers has been filtered through an AM radio, a mutation that works by dint of sounding completely natural on an evolutionary view."
Jason Moore of Opus wrote: "Ultimately, Lum and Bee are all about creating a mood with their music, a relaxed and blissed-out vibe that should be no stranger to fans of dreampop, chill-out electronica, and atmospheric pop. This is music for both late night sessions and noon daydreams, for both listening to at work when you need to escape the pressure of the day and at home when you simply need to unwind with a good book and a glass of wine."
