about

Lovespirals truly hit their stride with 3rd full-length album, 'Long Way From Home.' Melding the dreamy folk and rock of their debut, 'Windblown Kiss,' with the soulful jazz and blues of follow-up, 'Free & Easy,' the duo seamlessly blend prior influences with new sounds and styles. The sensual voice of Anji Bee spins seductive tales of beautiful sadness and spiritual longing set to Ryan Lum's melancholic music. Bluesy electric guitar abounds, with touches of wistful slide guitar, tinkling piano, and haunting harmonica to evoke a lush, organic, Americana feel.

Long-time fans of Lovespirals (and Lum's prior incarnation, Love Spirals Downwards) will be pleased to hear the duo return to their Dream Pop roots as well as their return to vocal and guitar based songwriting. Bee's vocal harmonies soar confidently alongside Lum's guitar with that trademark blend of childlike innocence and mature sensuality that has endeared her to listeners new and old. And Lum's guitar comes to the forefront of the music as it never has before, with a masterful mix of acoustic, electric, and slide guitar playing, featuring majestic solo work.

The heart-tugging blend of Americana and Dream Pop in 'Long Way From Home' brings to mind the quieter works of indie bands like Mazzy Star, Mojave 3, and Red House Painters, while Lovespirals' studio finesse hints at better known artists such as Chris Issac, k.d. lang, or Cowboy Junkies. The influence of rock legends David Gilmour, Neil Young, and Jerry Garcia peek through in Lum's guitar work, while Bee's lyrics and vocals strive toward the exalted sorrow expressed by George Harrison, Tim Buckley, and Nick Drake.

The album's first single, a gorgeously moody cover of the anonymous American classic, "Motherless Child," currently holds the #3 spot on the "Most Played on Podcasts" chart for the Downtempo Genre on Music Alley (formerly known as the Podsafe Music Network), while the album's second single, "This Truth," currently ranks #7 on the same chart. Both singles have been remixed by a number of artists and released as extended singles.

The 'Motherless Child EP' contains remixes by Hungry Lucy, Karmacoda, MoShang, and more. The band's second Peace Love Production remix contest inspired the 'This Truth EP,' which includes contest winning producer, Pomatic, runner-up Kambronn, and Projekt Records labelmate, Soul Whirling Somewhere, amongst others. UK dance label, Loverush Digital, released another set of "This Truth" remixes, branded as Damien.S VS Lovespirals, featuring additional remixes by Juno Sinclair and Craig Bailey, Avatar One, Thomas Oldani, and Adam Fielding. The single reached number #2 on the DMC World Wide Trance Charts, #4 on the DMC World Wide House Charts, and #8 on the UK Music Week Club Charts.

Matthew Johnson of Re:Gen Magazine wrote: “It’s not an understatement to call Long Way from Home the duo’s most accomplished work up to date; as enjoyable as their previous explorations of laidback electronica and jazz fusion have been, this album captures Lum and Bee’s warm musical chemistry in a way that previous releases only hinted at.”

Miles Klee of Hot Indie News wrote: "Bluesy slide guitar work sometimes shades over into Santana-like finger-meandering, and vocalist Anji Bee’s layered voice paints bright glaze over already dreamy arrangements. It’s as though the glancing disaffection of 80′s and 90′s dream-poppers has been filtered through an AM radio, a mutation that works by dint of sounding completely natural on an evolutionary view."

Jason Moore of Opus wrote: "Ultimately, Lum and Bee are all about creating a mood with their music, a relaxed and blissed-out vibe that should be no stranger to fans of dreampop, chill-out electronica, and atmospheric pop. This is music for both late night sessions and noon daydreams, for both listening to at work when you need to escape the pressure of the day and at home when you simply need to unwind with a good book and a glass of wine."

Track Name: Caught in the Groove
Only so many ways one
Can play that same ole damn song
Only so many phrasings and so many tunings
Before the whole thing just sounds wrong

Have we reached the end of the record?
Is the needle just caught in the groove?
But I’m too tired to get up
I’m too tired to pick up and move

Tell me, what am I to do?

Only so many ways one
Can say those old words “good bye”
Only so many phrasings and so many gestures
Before you just break down and cry

Have we reached the end of the record?
Is the needle just caught in the groove?
But we’re too tired to get up
We’re too tired to pick up and move

Tell me whatcha gonna do?
Hey hey
Hey now, whatcha gonna do?
Whatcha gonna do?

– By Anji Bee (BMI)
Track Name: Empty Universe
Wonderin’ why you’re all alone again
Feel as if you haven’t got a friend in this world
But I’m here

Even if we were the only two left on this star
Think of all the things that we could do; we could go far

Singing songs to the empty universe
Sowing seeds through the empty universe
And you never know what might grow

Singing songs to the empty universe
Sowing seeds through the empty universe
And you never know what might grow

Oh, oh, oh empty universe (x3)

Wonderin’ why you’re all alone again

– By Anji Bee (BMI)
Track Name: Treading The Water
I’m just not sure
Don’t know anymore
Where this relationship stands
Once blushed like a rose
Now your eyes are closed
Should I let go of your hands?

Perched on the edge
Losing my grip
Treading the water

Will you accept me?
Will you reject me?
Flip a coin fulfill my fate
Can’t take this ambiguity
Do we possess longevity?
It’s a fine line between love and hate

I’m down for the count
Time running out
Treading the water
I’m holding my breath
Blue in the face
Treading the water

Don’t know if I can keep
Treading the water

– Anji Bee (BMI)
Track Name: Once In A Blue Moon
Why does time play it’s tricks on me
Buzz in my head and my thoughts incomplete
Some sights move me to tears and then
Falling asleep again

Once in a blue moon you feel really alive
Most of the time we just cover our heads and hide
Once in a blue moon you feel really alive
Most of the time we just cover our heads and hide

Why does time play it’s tricks on me
Buzz in my head and my thoughts incomplete
Some sounds move me to scream and then
Falling asleep again

Once in a blue moon you feel really alive
Most of the time we just cover our heads and hide
Once in a blue moon you feel really alive
Most of the time we just cover our heads and hide

– By Anji Bee (BMI)
Track Name: This Truth
We’ve been together a decade
Though its gone by in the blink of an eye
When I think back on our years together
The only thing I wonder is why
We didn’t begin our lives much sooner
From the first time we met
Well every moment we’ve shared is precious
And there’s nothin’ ’bout us that I regret, no

And she will never take away from that
No, there’s nothing she can say or do
To take away this truth
That you belong to me and I belong to you

This year it will be a decade
We’ve stood together hand in hand
Telling each other everything
Trusting the other will understand
We have never been lead astray
I don’t think we ever will
There doesn’t seem to be a need
That our deep love can’t fulfill

And she will never take away from that
No, there’s nothing she can say or do
To take away this truth
That you belong to me and I belong to you
Yeah, you belong to me and I, and I belong to you
You belong to me and I belong to you

– Anji Bee (BMI)
Track Name: Motherless Child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
A long, long ways from home
A long, long way from home

Sometimes I feel like I’m almost gone
Sometimes I feel like I’m almost gone
Sometimes I feel like I’m almost gone
A long, long ways from home
A long, long way from home

True believer, a long way from home
A long, long way from my home
A long, long way from my home

– Anonymous American spiritual arranged by Anji Bee (BMI)
Track Name: Sundrenched
Sundrenched afternoon
Waiting for a word from you
Dust motes cloud my eyes
Diamond tears I cry

Sparkling light refracting off my tears
Caught up I’m worn out and burned out by fears
Why must I always assume the worst
Heart beating so fast I fear it may burst

Sunwarmed cobblestone
Walking all alone
Dark thoughts should melt away
In the light of day

Sparkling light refracting off my tears
Caught up I’m worn out and burned out by fears
Why must I always assume the worst
Heart beating so fast I fear it may burst

La la la la la…

– Anji Bee (BMI)
Track Name: Nocturnal Daze
Woke up this morning
A song was playing in my head
Pulled the blankets closer
Hunkered down into the bed

Fragments of dreams
Swam hazily inside my mind
Mixed up patchwork images
Form hidden meanings left to find

If I get up to start my day
Before the mysteries revealed
I’ll go round feeling haunted
By this secret that’s been sealed away

Why do these people follow me
Through my nocturnal daze?
Mix up the year, mix up the place
Mix up the name and face

Rode the train this morning
To the end of the line
Forgot where I was going
Seems I lost all track of time

That same old song was playing
Looping endless in my brain
While dream sequences flooded in
More real than the rain outside

If I get up to start my day
Before the mysteries revealed
I’ll go round feeling haunted
By this secret that’s been sealed away

Why do these people follow me
Through my nocturnal daze?
Mix up the year, mix up the place
Mix up the name and face

Lovers I forgot about
Places that I’ve never been
Jobs that I quit years ago
Younger than I’ll ever be again

– Anji Bee (BMI)
Track Name: Lovelight
Why waste your precious days
Chasing in vain
Elusive happiness
Can only bring you pain
Our time on Earth is so short
But our suffering is long
We all sense secretly
There’s somewhere else we belong

Just look deep inside yourself
To see who you really are
When your illusions melt away
Your soul will shine just like a star

Beaming rays of lovelight
Beaming rays of lovelight, lovelight, lovelight

Just look deep inside yourself
To see who you really are
When your illusions melt away
Your soul will shine just like a star

Beaming rays of lovelight
Beaming rays of lovelight
(repeat to end)

– By Anji Bee (BMI)
Track Name: Lazy Love Days
The touch of your hands
Soothing my soul
With your caress
I am made whole
Just couldn’t ask
For anything more
Lazy love days
Meant to explore

The smell of your skin
Familiar and warm
Rustle of sheets
Outlining your form
You pull me close
Make me your own
Here in your arms
I’ve found my home

Oh, I could never go back again
No, not since I’ve found you, dear
No, I could never return to him
Oh, how I long to stay here
Here with you

– By Anji Bee (BMI)
